First off, in an age of shitty band names, here is one that is good.
Second, the term "post-hardcore" has come to mean a number of things.
But if post-hardcore is descriptive of the more musically diverse material that people create
after they have been in a few hardcore bands, then Error Type: 11 are a pretty good example.
Error Type: 11 comes out of the ashes of a number of bands, like Long Island's Clockwise and Mind Over Matter.
They formed after vocalist Arty Shepherd quit World's Fastest Car, which featured Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, who
Error Type: 11 are rumored to sound like. It isn't true. As far as what the band actually does sound like I asked Arty to
describe it, he offered, "I guess we will be lumped into the whole emo thing. The difference with us is that we
aren't slow, whiney, annoying, and we sing in key!" Are you keeping count, kids? Now we have defined two scene
terms, "post-hardcore" and "emo". But seriously folks, Error Type: 11, though they don't
sound like Quicksand, have an additional connection to good old Wally. Some Records, owned by Walter, Sam Siegler, and Matt Pincus, has released the first two records from the band, a seven-inch and a full-length. Both are available now.
And both are waiting for you. - Dan Gross
